Orange County Date Ideas (Things To Do)

1. A Day at the Beach
Balboa Beach
Balboa Beach
The beaches of Orange County can be quite romantic, especially around sunset and later, under the stars. Whether you choose to go swimming or indulge in other beachside sports together or simply lounge on the sand, Orange County beaches provide you with the ideal backdrop to get to know someone a little better or make the time spent with each other a little more special. Mind you, most of these beaches - except Balboa Beach - are subject to red tide (a harmful algae bloom) at times, so do keep a lookout.

While Newport Beach boasts of its scenic harbor islands, Balboa's Peninsula Beach offers you two gorgeous stretches of sand - ocean-side and harbor-side. At Balboa Island, lock your fingers together and stroll down the beautiful Marine Avenue. Ditto for the Main Beach, Newport Pier, and Huntington Beach Pier. Later in the evening, light up a bonfire at one of the rings on the sands- most beaches allow it - and cuddle up together before the blaze in the moonlight.

2. A Touch of Nature
Crystal Cove
Crystal Cove Park
Orange County has a number of state and national parks, forests, natural preserves, and wetlands, some of which are home to rare species of birds. These are places where you can roam undisturbed or go hiking, biking, fishing, or camping. When the stars come out and the moonlight works its magic on the glittering waters, what better setting to whisper sweet nothings into each other's ears?

At Crystal Cove Park, you can walk on the beach, hike, ride horses in the woodlands, or scuba dive to feast on the colors of the underwater park. If you are there in winter, take one of the nature hikes conducted by the park rangers. At Dana Point, one of the most romantic locales in the state, there is a plethora of activities you can indulge in - a picnic on the beach, a swim in the calm waters, fish, and do a bit of shopping as well. Take a trip to the beautiful Catalina Island or spot a few whales in early spring. The Doheny State Beach has a shady lawn where you can relax with a picnic basket. Nearby is Mission San Juan Capistrano, a place you must visit in the third week of March for the charming sight of the swallows returning to Capistrano and marking the beginning of spring.

3. Festivals Galore
Festival of Arts and Pageant
Festival of Arts Pageant
Arts in Orange County are synonymous with the Festival of Arts and Pageant of the Masters held every summer in Laguna Beach. You may want to check out the equally renowned Sawdust Art Festival, also in summer, whereas in fall and winter, the area hosts many free concerts and craft shows. The area is home to several world-class art galleries and a number of museums, including the striking Bowers Museum, which offers a taste of real Orange County culture.

4. An Artistic Date
Actors in a play
Actors in a Play
Enjoy a performance at the Garden Grove Playhouse, the South Coast Repertory Theater, or the Balboa Performing Arts Theater, and numerous other venues for theater, ballet, music performances, and more. The street festival of Old Towne Orange is great a place to have fun and indulge in an amazing array of world cuisine - Italian, Greek, Polynesian, Japanese, and Swiss, to name a few. Then dine at one of the classy restaurants, reserving some time later for a quiet stroll.

5. Downtown Disney
Downtown Disney
Downtown Disney
This is one happening place to spend your time together. Wander through the theme park and take in the entertainment. Plenty of shopping and gawking opportunities present themselves. Street performances and little entertainments thrive in this vicinity. When you have strolled to your heart's content, step into the Rainforest Café, the most popular re-fueling stop in Downtown Disney.

6. Rock through the night
Dance Club in the OC
Dance Club in OC
There is no need to call it a night after a romantic dinner date. Add some tempo to your evening by hitting one of the many trendy nightclubs around town. The most highly rated are the expensive Club Vegas and The Boogie in Anaheim, near Disneyland. The Liquid Lounge is one of the most fashionable spots; it has an in-house Jacuzzi and a mean sushi bar. For a "wild" touch, try the Shark Club - complete with a 2000-gallon shark tank in the center, as well as great music to dance the night away!

7. A Pair on the Pier
Huntington Pier
Huntington Pier
The Huntington Beach Pier is the perfect place for you if you want to enjoy a light and causal date. Lots of beachside fun is available - including, but not limited to, swimming, surfing, and soaking in the sun. Rent rollerblades and glide along the pier, or join in on a game of volleyball.

Then there are the great restaurants, any of which is perfect for a relaxed lunch spent talking to your favorite person in the world. Shopping and entertainment are not far behind. Watch the sun set and the skies change color, then turn back to the lit-up Surf City and get into the groove of the hot nightspots and clubs.

8. A Place for all things Romantic
International Fair
Orange Int'l Fair
Here is an opportunity to go back to your childhood days. The Orange International Street Fair, held every Labor Day weekend in Downtown Orange, is the perfect place to lose yourselves in the whirl of fun and fantasy. Live music, unique street performances, and one-of-a-kind entertainment are the high points here. Add to it the chance to taste some of the most exotic and ethnic dishes you can imagine and the opportunity to spend the entire time with your sweetie, and you will be pleased as punch!
